This Postal Numismatic Cover celebrates 30 years of official recognition of the Torres Strait Islander Flag as a "Flag of Australia".
Designed by the late Bernard Namok of Thursday Island, the flag is a proud symbol of the unity and identity of all Torres Strait Islanders. The green represents the land, blue represents the sea, and black symbolises the people. The white dhari (headdress) is a symbol of Torres Strait Islanders used in cultural ceremonies and dance, and the five-pointed star represents peace and the navigational importance of stars to the seafaring people of the Torres Strait.
